I love Star Wars and I know a lot of other people do too, millions in fact, all across the world. Despite all the love, there’s still plenty of hate and anger. I’d like to do my part to remedy that malice with a little celebration of my own by highlighting things about Star Wars that bring me joy.
Each week I’ll discuss something different and topics won’t necessarily be related to divisive conversation. Instead, I’ll reflect on anything Star Wars that makes me smile. This week, I’m talking about those great Star Wars quotes.
Star Wars has so many great quotes from so many great characters. What makes the quotes great aren’t just that they’re memorable but that they cover such a variety of emotions from a host of heroes and villains.
I think we can all agree that “May the force be with you,” and “I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” might be where the incredible treasure trove of quotes originated. “May the force be with you,” even ranks #8 on American Film Institute’s 100 Greatest Quotes of All-Time released in 2005.
The quotes that people love and share with friends are as fun as Babu Frik’s “Hey, Heyyyyy” and as emotional as Padme’s delivery of “I love you truly, deeply love you, and before we die I want you to know.” Star Wars quotes allow fans to find joy and comfort in any facet of their lives. There’s no moment you can’t call up a Star Wars quote to make you laugh or make you feel better.
Personally, some of my favorite quotes come from Han Solo. He’s a bottomless glass of fun, spouting out lines like “This is where the fun begins,” “never tell me the odds,” and My favorite Han Solo line comes from The Empire Strikes Back after hearing a guard extol some come concern for his Tauntaun, Solo retorts “Then I’ll see you in hell.” Perfection. The relentless drive and fearless attitude that comes from his delivery perfectly sums up Solo’s character.
The saga even gives truly inspiring quotes to minor characters like Zor Bliss, who still manages to squeeze every last drop out of her limited screen time. “They win by making you think you’re alone. Remember? There’s more of us.” Just thinking about that line gives me chills.
Star Wars is rife with unforgettable lines and the villains are an equal part of this category. “You don’t know the power of the dark side,” is impossible to ignore. Snoke, Jabba the Hut and Darth Maul are as witty as they come. Darth Maul stands out for his tragic arc throughout the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows. I especially like his delivery of “Formerly Darth, now just Maul.”
