“The Light. It’s always been there. It will guide you.”Maz Kanata, The Force Awakens
One of the goals we started out with when began this venture was to focus on the positive aspects of Star Wars. There’s certainly negativity out there, and it can alter your view of the larger Star Wars community if you allow it to. But that’s not what we’re about here.
The majority of Star Wars fans are not negative at all. In fact, I’d wager a majority of the peole who call themselves fans barely pay attention to this narrative. They might not even know it exists. They just want to be fans and enjoy the movies or read a comic or visit a theme park for a photo-op in front of the Millenium Falcon. I’ve been thinking about how we can drive this point home over the last few weeks, and yesterday it finally hit me: I’ll just show you. I think it’s important, not just to remind the world how great Star Wars fans are, but to remind ourselves as well.
We want to showcase all the examples of Star Wars fans doing good in the world – giving back to their community, coordinating some amazing charity event, helping someone in need, or even just having a good time and encouraging others to do the same.
This is going to be a brand new series of blog posts, because we all could use a little more positivity in our lives. We don’t even want to say it will be weekly or anything like that. As we come across examples or you send them in, I’ll write them up. After all, if we get two or three of these a week, it will only help to spread the feels!
And yes, I said you can send these to us! In fact, PLEASE send them. We would love to hear about what Star Wars is doing around you to make life better. If you find an article, or hear about something going on near you, or even if you’re a Star Wars fan (or podcast, or website, or blog, or vlog, or live stream, or fan fic writer, or whatever you might be) and you’re organizing some type of charity event – let us know! Even if someone out there in the community was just super nice to you in some way, that counts, too! These are the things we want to know about. And heck, if you want to write it up yourself and be a guest blogger here, all the better!
If you have something to send in, feel free to leave it in a comment here, send it to us on Twitter, let us know on Facebook, message me in Discord, or send us an email. You can get all of those links by clicking right here.
Small reminder here: if yours is something like a personal story about someone you know or a picture of something you came across, make sure the people involved are okay with their story being shared. We want to spread the positivity, but let’s also respect privacy as well.
So let’s do this. Let’s show the world together how awesome Star Wars fans really are! I’m willing to bet we don’t know a fraction of the amazing things our fandom is involved in, so let’s bring light to all of them!
