With the end of the Skywalker Saga, it’s time to do what we as fans do best: plan our own roadmap for Lucasfilm to follow to the letter!
And with roughly two and a half years until our next movie, with no firm confirmations yet on what that might be, this is the perfect time to do that.
Just like every other Star Wars fan out there, I’ve got my own little wishlist of things I would love to see on the big screen. So hit that “Read More” button right below to see what I’m wishing for!
The Old Republic
Let’s just get this one out of the way now, shalll we?
Everyone wants this. If Lucasfilm has one announcement they’re sitting on that would instantly make an overwhelming majority of fans (if not unanimously) happy, it’s the Old Republic.
There are quite literally thousands of years to be explored here. The potential for new stories and new characters is practically limitless. Yes, there are some characters that die hards will want to see. And we may have gotten some hints that there are plans for some of those characters in the Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary.
I’m super excited to see if the High Republic rumors turn out to be true. While it’s not quite the leap back in time I was hoping for, it’s moving in that direction. Part of me hopes that might be the litmus test to see if going back to the Old Republic is as in demand as it’s made out to be.
If you’re at all familiar with the old Expanded Universe (now branded Legends), then you may have come accross the HUGE New Jedi Order series of novels. This series encompassed a whopping nineteen novels, and chronicled Luke’s attempts to rebuild a Jedi Order amidst an invasion of an other-galactic species known as the Yuuzhan Vong.
I know this story can’t be told in the future the same way it was told in the Expanded Universe, and that’s totally fine. It doesn’t even need to be the Vong that invade. A new species could be equally as interesting.
What this could be, however, is a continuation of Rey’s story. It would mean bringing the core cast back, which is probably a long shot. But maybe with a few years away from everything, they’d all be more receptive to another go around.
The other possibility is that a story like this could be told in the past. There’s no reason a threat from another galaxy has to take place in the future. This could very easily be a story that takes place in an Old Republic setting.
However it happens, I think there’s only so many threats that this self-contained galaxy can create on its own. I would love to see how this galaxy responds to an outside threat, wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head.
Jedi Master Rey
I already said this above, but again I know this is a long shot. But as long as this is a wish list, then I’m going to wish.
I would love to see Rey again in a number of years. I’m probably talking more than a decade here. Maybe this ends up being the Ewan McGregor of the next decade, where we keep yearning to see her reprise that role, and we finally get it. Except she’s a little older and a little wiser, and – in Rey’s case – she’s the Jedi Master now.
So what struggle does she face? A new darkness? Have the Sith risen again, or perhaps a different Dark Side user poses a new threat? Maybe she’s on the brink of losing her own student to the Dark Side. Maybe it’s none of that, and we get to see the new Jedi in action against whatever threat the galaxy as a whole is facing.
There’s so many places we could take this – so many stories we could tell. And I’ve grown to love all of these characters so much that thinking about the possibility of never seeing them again on the big screen is frankly a little depressing. But, I waited this long for a new Obi-Wan series. I can do it again.
Whatever story we end up getting, it’ll only a few short years until we’re in a theater again, looking at that glorious opening title.
